2018 QIPCO British Champions Day

October 21, 2018
An incredible weekend break; Saturday spent in Ascot, where Cracksman put on a breathtaking racing display, and Sunday outdoors enjoying another unnaturally warm and sunny day (despite it being the end of October), feasting on Arabic cuisine, then sheesha and Persian tea as we recouped.

Cracksman, sired by Frankel, won the QIPCO Champion Stakes for the second consecutive year, and we were blown away by what we saw. The 4 y.o. thoroughbred crossed the finish line at a breathtaking 6-length distance separating him from runner-up Crystal Ocean in those last two furlongs. It seems like it will now be a multi-year wait before another horse is able to win consecutive runnings of the Champion Stakes like this, i.e. by as much as a combined total of 13 lengths. We also saw Roaring Lion take the Queen Elizabeth II stakes, with the beautiful thoroughbred now set to retire to stud.

Today, in celebration of Cracksman's victory the food and drink flowed. While at Ascot I picked up Churchill at the Gallop, and cannot put it down.

A few iPhone snaps below. None of the races yet as they are on the Canon Mark III, which we pulled out for some beautiful racecourse-side photography.
